Stage performer from Chhattisgarh drugged, gang-raped by her co-artists in Jharkhand

Palamu: In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the artistic community, a 21-year-old orchestra artist from Chhattisgarh was reportedly gang-raped by her co-artists in Jharkhand’s Palamu district, as informed by the police on Monday.

Victim, who came to perform at an event in Jharkhand, was gangraped by four persons after being drugged in a car on Sunday. Two of the accused, who abandoned her on the road after she was gangraped, were arrested by police on the same day. Other two accused persons are, however, absconding, police said.

The criminals allegedly assaulted her in a car on a road in Vishrampur police station area, about 200 km from state capital Ranchi, late on Saturday night. Following this, they brutally left her unconscious before fleeing the scene.

Bishrampur Sub-divisional Police Officer Rakesh Singh confirmed that two of the accused have been detained, while the survivor has been hospitalised in Palamu for medical evaluation. The female artiste had travelled from Chhattisgarh for a scheduled performance in Bishrampur, which was ultimately cancelled, prompting her to accompany her male co-artists to another event in Hussainabad.

Later the local people, who found her unconscious on the road, took her to a hospital for treatment. After she regained consciousness, the artist narrated her ordeal in front of police. The police swung into action and arrested Ajay and Bindeshwar, the two accused.

At present, manhunt have been launched by police to arrest two other accused. Bishrampur police station in-charge Saurabh Choubey said that the police launched a manhunt for two other accused, who have been absconding.
