Strong earthquake in Turkey for the 5th time, over 4800 deaths so far

A fifth earthquake struck eastern Turkey as the country grapples with widespread devastation and the death toll reaches 5,000. The European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said that an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 occurred on Tuesday. According to the Associated Press, 5000 people have died so far due to earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

Turkey-Syria earthquake: A fifth earthquake struck eastern Turkey as the country grapples with widespread devastation and the death toll reaches 5,000. The European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said that an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 occurred on Tuesday. According to the Associated Press, 5000 people have died so far due to earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. The death toll continues to rise amid widespread devastation. India has so far sent two rescue teams to earthquake-hit Turkey.

Hours after announcing the disaster relief response in earthquake-hit Turkey, the Indian Army has prepared a field hospital to provide medical assistance to the affected people in the region. Agra-based Army Field Hospital has sent an 89-member medical team. The Medical Team includes Orthopedic Surgical Team, General Surgical Specialist Team, Medical Specialist Teams besides Critical Care Specialist Teams to include other medical teams. The teams are equipped with X-ray machines, ventilators, oxygen generation plants, cardiac monitors and related equipment to set up a 30-bed medical facility.

Hospitals are overcrowded after the earthquake in Turkey. Rescue workers said there were long queues of injured people at medical centers amid the tense atmosphere. According to the SAMS medical organization, some special facility hospitals, including maternity hospitals, have also been evacuated for the injured.

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar tweeted and informed that help is being given to Turkey. Over 50 NDRF personnel, specially trained dog squads, drilling machines, relief material, medicines and other essential facilities and equipment were airlifted to Adana, Turkey by C17 aircraft. While, the other plane is getting ready for departure.

Turkey’s wounds from the devastating earthquake continue to come to the fore. Officials said at least four Turkish airports were damaged. People trapped under the debris are being rescued. Officials said more than 6,200 buildings had collapsed in Turkey.
