Uttarakhand Requests Additional Troops Following 5 Fatalities in Clashes Over Madrasa Demolition

In the aftermath of violent clashes that resulted in five casualties during an anti-encroachment drive in Nainital’s Banbhulpura, the Uttarakhand government has urgently sought four additional companies of central paramilitary forces to restore and maintain law and order in the region.

In a letter addressed to the Union Home Secretary, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi emphasized the need for additional paramilitary forces due to ongoing attempts by anarchic elements to disrupt law and order in Haldwani city’s Nainital district. The unrest stemmed from an anti-encroachment drive conducted on February 8, 2024, in Malik ka Bagicha under the Banbhulpura police station area.
