West Bengal: ED conducts raids at multiple locations amid MGNREGA funds controversy

West Bengal: On Tuesday, an official said that the probe agency ED raids were launched at multiple locations in West Bengal in connection with its investigation into alleged embezzlement of Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Act funds.

West Bengal: On Tuesday, an official said that the probe agency ED raids were launched at multiple locations in West Bengal in connection with its investigation into alleged embezzlement of Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Act funds.

The official further said that the raid was conducted at the residence of a former Block Development Officer (BDO) in IA Block of Salt Lake. The agency personnel also raided the residence and office of a businessman in Chinsurah in Hooghly district.

The ED officer said that a property belonging to a state government employee in Baharampur in Murshidabad district is also being searched. An official said that the former BDO was posted in Dhaniakhali in Hooghly district.

He claimed that the searches were being conducted after evidence of their involvement was found in the “irregularities”. Official said that the alleged irregularities relate to about 25 lakh “fake” job cards issued under MGNREGA in the state.
