65-year-old man brutally beaten to death over IPL match dispute in Maharashtra; 2 Held

Kolhapur: In yet another distressing incident, a 65-year-old man died after being brutally assaulted by two people in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur district after the trio had a heated altercation over who would win the IPL match, officials said on Sunday.

As per officials, the elderly man, recognised as Bandopant Tibile, was thrashed by two people, after they had a heated argument with him as to who would win the IPL match between local favourites Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad held on March 27.

Bandopant Tibile sustained grave injuries after he was hit in the head with a wooden stick by one of the accused.

The victim was then swiftly rushed to a nearby hospital where he had been undergoing treatment over the next two days but succumbed to his injuries on Saturday evening.

Accused Sagar Sadashiv Jhanjge and Balwant Mahadev Jhanjge have been arrested and the police are investigating the incident.

Bandopant Tibile and Balwant Jhanjge from Hanamantwadi in Karveer tehsil of Kolhapur district were neighbours and lived next to each other’s house.

The victim and the accused had gathered opposite their house to watch the IPL match on a TV installed there by their neighbours.

The situation stayed peaceful for some time, but things started taking an ugly turn when the fans of either team began fighting over every little moment in the match.

Things quickly spiralled out of control when Balwant Jhanjhe grabbed Bandopant’s son Vijay by the neck and started beating him.

Thereafter, Balwant’s nephew Sagar Jhanjge came from behind and hit Bandopant Tibile on the head with a wood stick, causing him to fall on the ground instantly. He was taken to the nearby CPR Hospital after his nose started bleeding profusely.
