Ayodhya: In a grand addition to the upcoming Ram Temple in Ayodhya, a majestic bell weighing 2,400 kg has reached its destination, gifted by the Etah district of Uttar Pradesh. Crafted from ‘ashtadhatu’ or eight metals, the bell, valued at ₹25 lakhs, is set to resonate across a 2 km radius, measuring an impressive six feet in height and five feet in width.
The extraordinary bell, a product of the collaborative efforts of approximately 30 skilled artisans, is composed of gold, silver, copper, zinc, lead, tin, iron, and mercury. Unique in its single-piece crafting, the bell’s resonant sound is expected to create a spiritual aura within the vicinity.
Transported via train, the monumental bell made its way to Ayodhya on Tuesday after traversing various subdivisions of the Etah district. The meticulous process of its creation involved shaping and measuring the components, crafting wooden templates for the mould, metal preparation, tuning, grinding, and fitting the clapper.
Metal trader Aditya Mittal shared that his late brother Vikas Mittal, former chairman of Jalesar Nagar Panchayat, expressed a wish to donate this bell before his untimely demise in 2022. Honoring Vikas’s wish, Aditya and his brother Prashant Mittal decided to donate the bell to the Ram Temple. The Mittal brothers received the order for the bell from the Nirmohi Akhara, a litigant in the Ayodhya title dispute, following the Supreme Court’s decision in November 2019.
Aditya Mittal expressed a belief in divine providence, stating, “We believe there is some divine reason that this work came to us. So, we decided to donate it to the temple.” The Etah district, renowned for its skilled artisans, houses around 300 factories in Jalesar dedicated to the art of creating temple bells. This grand addition to the Ram Temple reflects not only craftsmanship but also a poignant familial tribute and a connection to the spiritual heritage of Ayodhya.
