Dantewada: In a tragic incident, Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district witnessed an unfortunate incident as four workers lost their lives in a landslide at an iron ore mine area on Tuesday, as confirmed by local authorities. The incident unfolded at around 3 pm under the Kirandul police station limits, allotted to the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) for mining, said an official. The incident occured after portion of a big rock caved in trapping four of the fourteen workers engaged in the work.

Two other workers were injured in the incident. Fourteen workers were engaged in the construction of a retaining wall as part of the Screening Plant-3 extension project of the NMDC, said Dantewada Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rai. A portion of a big rock caved in, trapping four of them.

The deceased have been recognised as Bittu Bala (26), Tushar Bala (49), and Nirmal Bala (56), hailing from West Bengal, along with Santosh Kumar Das (29) from Bihar.

Dantewada collector Mayank Chaturvedi assured that a thorough inquiry will be conducted into the incident, with appropriate stern action taken against any parties found responsible for negligence.

Notably, actual mining activities had not commenced in the area where the tragic incident occurred, underscoring the importance of safety protocols and preemptive measures in such environments.
