Delhi liquor case: CM Kejriwal skips ED summons again, terms central agency’s notice ‘illegal’

New Delhi: On Wednesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal skipped another summons by the Enforcement Directorate for questioning in connection with the Delhi excise case. AAP has said that the the Delhi CM is willing to cooperate in the investigation but the notice sent him was illegal and the agency intends to arrest him before the elections.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo was summoned by the probe agency on January 3 for questioning in connection with an excise policy-linked money laundering case. AAP has questioned the timing of the ED notice and claimed the agency wants to stop Kejriwal from taking part in the party’s poll campaign.

In a response to the Enforcement Directorate, the Chief Minister said he was ready to cooperate with the investigation, however, termed the notice “illegal”. This is the third time that Kejriwal has failed to appear before the central probe agency for questioning in connection with Delhi Excise scam.

Kejriwal’s party alleged the probe agency intended to arrest the Chief Minister and wanted to prevent him from election campaigning. Kejriwal was issued summon on December 22 and asked to appear for questioning on January 3 after he refused to appear before the federal agency on two earlier summonses issued for November 2 and December 21.

A large number of police and paramilitary forces have been deployed outside the ED headquarters in the national capital. On Tuesday, the AAP said it would act according to the law over the Enforcement Directorate’s summons to Kejriwal, its Chief National Spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said on Tuesday.
