Security measures at the India-Nepal border have been significantly heightened in anticipation of the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, scheduled for January 22 and to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Uttar Pradesh police have issued alerts in seven districts along the border, intensifying vigilance to ensure a secure environment for the event.

Officials emphasized that strict monitoring is in place to prevent suspicious individuals from crossing the border and to curtail smuggling activities. As part of the enhanced surveillance efforts, police teams are utilizing drones to monitor unconventional routes, keeping a check on any suspicious movements.

On Tuesday, the Additional Director General of Police (ADG) for Gorakhpur zone, KSP Kumar, visited the Sonauli border in Mahanagar district to assess the security measures in preparation for the Ayodhya event. During the visit, the ADG held a meeting with officials from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), responsible for guarding the India-Nepal border.

The eastern region of the state, including districts such as Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddarthnagar, and Maharajganj, along with the western districts of Pilibhit and Lakhimpur Kheri, share a 599-km border with Nepal. Joint patrolling efforts by the UP Police and the SSB have been intensified across the Nepal border, covering districts such as Bahraich and six others sharing the international boundary.

KSP Kumar, ADG Gorakhpur Zone, emphasized the close coordination between state police and central agencies to maintain peace along the India-Nepal border. He stated, “We are keeping a close watch on the situation across the border, and all five police outposts on the Nepal border in Bahraich have been asked to remain extra alert and intensify vigil.”

Similar vigilance measures have been implemented in the districts falling under the jurisdiction of Lucknow range and Bareilly range of UP police, including Lakhimpur Kheri and Pilibhit. The intensified security efforts aim to ensure a smooth and secure environment during the significant Ayodhya event.
