FIR Registered Against X User for Ranveer Singh Deepfake Video; Cyber Cell Launches Investigation

Mumbai : In the wake of the deepfake video controversy involving actor Ranveer Singh, Mumbai’s cyber police have taken significant steps, registering an FIR against an X user and commencing an investigation into the matter.

Ranveer Singh found himself embroiled in a deepfake video scandal following a viral video wherein he purportedly urged people not to vote for BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections. The actor promptly filed a police complaint against the dissemination of this AI-generated content. Subsequently, Mumbai’s cyber cell has filed an FIR against an X user named sujataindia1st for a post made on April 17, invoking relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and cyber laws.

The deepfake video in question falsely depicted Ranveer Singh endorsing the Congress party for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a narrative vehemently denied by the actor. Ranveer had previously voiced concerns about deepfake videos on social media, cautioning against their proliferation with the message, “Deepfake se bacho dostoonn.”

The AI-generated video purportedly originated from the Ganga Ghats of Varanasi, where Ranveer and actress Kriti Sanon had visited for a fashion event. In the original footage, Ranveer was sharing his experiences of the visit to Kashi, expressing his desire to bring his family to the Kashi Vishwanath temple someday.

On the Professional Front:

Amidst the controversy, Ranveer Singh’s professional commitments remain notable. He is set to reprise his role as Simba in “Singham Again,” alongside stalwarts like Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and his wife Deepika Padukone. Additionally, Ranveer has “Don 3” and Aditya Dhar’s “Shaktimaan” in his pipeline, with Kiara Advani and other collaborators, fueling anticipation among fans for his upcoming cinematic ventures.
