As Jharkhand grapples with scorching temperatures surpassing 40 degrees Celsius across many districts, the state government has swiftly taken action to safeguard students’ well-being. In response to a heatwave alert issued for 15 districts until April 22, school timings have been adjusted and outdoor activities under the sun have been restricted.
Effective April 22 until further notice, school timings undergo a significant alteration, catering to the safety and well-being of students. Kindergarten to class 8 students will commence their school day from 7 am to 11.30 am, while senior students from class 9 to 12 will extend their classes until noon.
To mitigate the risks associated with prolonged exposure to extreme heat, the government explicitly prohibits prayer meetings and outdoor sports activities conducted under the scorching sun during this period. However, the provision of mid-day meals remains unaffected, ensuring continued nutritional support for students.
The Meteorological department has issued a heatwave alert for 15 districts spanning from April 20 to April 22. Temperatures soar above 40 degrees Celsius across most parts of the state, with certain districts experiencing exceptionally high temperatures. Baharagora in East Singhbhum district recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 46.4 degrees Celsius, reflecting the severity of the weather conditions.
In light of the prevailing weather conditions, the Meteorological Centre emphasizes the importance of precautionary measures. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, opt for light-colored and loose-fitting cotton clothing, and shield themselves from direct sunlight by using appropriate headgear or umbrellas when outdoors.
