Ranchi : In a significant development, approximately 40 MLAs belonging to the ruling Mahagathbandhan coalition in Jharkhand have returned to Ranchi from Hyderabad, where they were stationed amid concerns of ‘poaching.’ The legislators, expressing confidence, have asserted unity and anticipate victory in the impending trust vote scheduled for February 5.
A special court in Ranchi has granted permission to former Chief Minister Hemant Soren to participate in the crucial trust vote. This decision adds an intriguing dimension to the political landscape as the Mahagathbandhan seeks to secure its position in the state assembly.
Minister Alamgir Alam, representing the coalition, has declared the united front of the Mahagathbandhan, citing support from 48 to 50 legislators. Additionally, JMM lawmaker Mithilesh Thakur asserts that several BJP legislators are also backing the alliance, enhancing their confidence in a favorable outcome.
While the coalition appears solid, some twists have emerged just before the trust vote. Notably, MLA Lobin Hembrom has conditionally agreed to support the Champai Soren-led government after outlining specific demands related to issues such as liquor sales prohibition, forest protection, and water conservation. Meanwhile, reports indicate that one legislator from the JMM may skip the floor test on Monday.
Despite certain uncertainties, the Mahagathbandhan remains optimistic about meeting the majority mark of 41 in the 81-member Jharkhand assembly. The alliance, comprising the JMM, Congress, and RJD, holds 47 MLAs and is further supported by the lone CPIML (L) legislator, positioning them favorably against the BJP and its allies with 29 MLAs.
As Jharkhand braces for a decisive political moment, all eyes are on the assembly floor where the fate of the Mahagathbandhan government will be determined in the upcoming trust vote.
