K Kavitha Challenges ED Arrest in Supreme Court Over Delhi Liquor Policy Case

BRS leader K Kavitha has taken a decisive step by filing a plea in the Supreme Court, contesting her arrest by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in connection with the Delhi liquor policy money laundering case.

K Kavitha Challenges ED Arrest in Supreme Court

K Kavitha Challenges ED Arrest in Supreme Court. Arrested from Hyderabad and transported to Delhi on March 15, Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, deems her detention as ‘illegal,’ as per sources familiar with the matter.

The ED has alleged Kavitha’s involvement with a “South Group” lobby of liquor traders, purportedly seeking influence under the defunct Delhi excise policy for 2021-22.

One of the accused, Vijay Nair, allegedly received kickbacks exceeding ₹100 crore from the “South Group” on behalf of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, claims the Enforcement Directorate.

Kavitha’s remand to ED custody until March 23 occurred just weeks prior to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Coincidentally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a roadshow in a Hyderabad suburb on the day of her arrest.

Granting the BRS leader immunity from interrogation until Wednesday, the Supreme Court heard her petition against the agency’s summons on Friday. The case is scheduled for its next hearing on March 19.
