Bengaluru: A case of honour killing unfolds from Bidalur village in Devanahalli taluk of Rural District in Karnataka where a father slits her daughter’s throat after he came to know she was involved in a relationship with a boy from another caste, police said on Thursday.
According to police, accused father identified as 47-year-old Manjunath, who runs a chicken shop in Bidalur village. He was allegedly upset about his daughter Kavana’s (20) inter-religious relationship and had warned her multiple times to end their relationship. However, Kavana refused to pay heed. On Wednesday night, a heated argument erupted between Manjunath and Kavana over the matter. In a fit of rage, Manjunath took a knife, slashed Kavana’s throat and stabbed her on her legs and hands several times.
Not only that, Kavana’s younger sister was also in a relationship with another boy. Manjunath accused Kavana that she was responsible for spoiling her younger sister and falling in love with a boy.
Following committing the crime, Manjunath surrendered himself at the police station. Notably, his younger daughter had also approached the police over her father’s opposition to her relationship.
According to Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Purshotham, Manjunath committed the murder possibly due to “malicious gossip” about his family.
“During our investigation, we found that Kavana was in a relationship with a boy from another community. Even her younger sister was also in a relationship with a boy. Unfortunately, the people in the village have been engaging in malicious gossip about the victim’s family. This appears to have driven the accused to commit the murder,” the SP said.
Hundreds of villagers gathered at the spot after the incident, everyone was shocked as the incident took place in an area near Bengaluru airport. This latest incident comes after two incidents of honor killing in Kolar district last month.
