Karnataka: Skeletal remains of 5 of family found in dilapidated house in Chitradurga

Karnataka: On Friday, an official said that The police have found the skeletons of five people inside a house situated on Jail Road in Chitradurga district of Karnataka. After receiving information about this incident the forensic team and other Scene of Crime officers visited the spot and collected samples.

According to the information, the five were last seen around July 2019 and their residence remained locked. The incident came to light after police got information about a skull that was spotted in front of a house. Relatives told police the family lived an entirely secluded life and was grappling with severe health issues.

Roughly two months ago, during a morning stroll, locals noticed the main wooden door had been broken, yet the police were not notified. The house belonged to a retired PWD Executive Engineer Jagannath Reddy. He used to live with his wife Premakka and daughter Triveni, and sons Krishna Reddy and Narendra Reddy.

Further examination of the spot indicated multiple break-ins and ransacking inside the house. According to the residents in the area, Jagannath Reddy was around 80-year-old and none of his children were married.

As the police arrived at the spot, they found four skeletons (two on beds and two on the floor) in one room, while another skeleton was found in another room.Meanwhile, the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team from Devengere and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCOs) were summoned to collect evidence and security was tightened around the house.

As per assessments based on statements from acquaintances, relatives, and family history, the remains were suspected to be of an octogenarian couple, their elderly son and daughter, and their 57-year-old grandson. The police have taken a complaint from Pawan Kumar, who is said to be the relative of Janaganth Reddy. The complainant claimed that he was not in touch with Jagannath Reddy for several years.

The complainant has also expressed suspicion about the cause of death and demanded the police to conduct an inquiry into the incident. However, the identities of the dead will be confirmed following forensic reports. Further investigations into the case were underway.
