50-Year-old Patwari was in the position of Minister for Higher Education, Sports, and Youth Affairs in the Kamal Nath-led government between December 2018 and March 2020. He resigned during the political turmoil of 2020, in which the BJP-led Shivraj Singh Chouhan government took power. Additionally, he served as the co-chairman of MPCC during his tenure in the Congress party. This reshuffling of leadership marks a crucial moment for the Congress party in its efforts to regroup and strategize for the political landscape in Madhya Pradesh

– He was born on 19 November 1973 in Bijalpur, a small town near Indore. His mother name is Pirak Bai Patwari and father name is Ramesh Chandra Kodarlal Patwari. He completed his schooling from Government Multi Malhar Ashram Higher Secondary School, Indore and then obtained BA and LLB degrees from Devi Ahilya University, Indore.

– His grandfather Kodarlal Patwari served as a freedom fighter during the Indian independence movement. His father, Ramesh Chandra Patwari, is also an active leader of Indian National Congress.

– He first became MLA in 2013 from Rau Vidhan Sabha. He is currently the Secretary of All India Congress Committee and is in charge of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee. He is also the Working President of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee as well as national media panelist of Indian National Congress. Earlier he was President of Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress.

– He won election for the second time from Rau in 2018.

– He was the president of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee for over five years and had to resign as chief minister in 2020 after the rebellion by senior leader Jyotiraditya Scindia.

– 50-year-old Patwari started his political innings in 2013 as MLA from Rau Assembly. He won the election from Rau for the second time in 2018, but lost in 2023. He has also been the President of Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress.

Congress was expected to come to power in the recently concluded assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. However, the party managed to win only 66 seats out of the 230-member assembly, while the BJP won 163 seats in the state.

The appointment of Jitu Patwari as the new president of Madhya Pradesh Congress signals a significant change for the Congress party.
