Mumbai: Depressed over less marks in exam, 22-year-old MBBS student dies by suicide in Kandivali

Mumbai: A 22-year-old MBBS student allegedly committed suicide in the northern Mumbai suburb of Kandivali at his residence on Friday, who was under depression due to low academic scores. The student was identified as Ajay Jangid. He was a second-year MBBS student.

Disappointed with the continuous poor results, Jangid had been at home for the last two months. His father works as a contractor and his mother is a housewife. The official said, “He was a student of a medical college in Latur and was reportedly suffering from depression due to low marks in his exams. He hanged himself in the hall of his house when his mother was in another room and his father was out.”

He added,”His mother spotted him hanging and alerted her husband and neighbours. He was rushed to hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The family has told us they do not have complaints against anybody in connection with the incident.”

After the incident, the police have recorded statements from his relatives, who said that the deceased interacted with them normally when they visited his house. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-11) Anand Bhoite said, “No suicide note was found at the home. The body has been sent for postmortem and the report is awaited.”

He also said that Jangid was on medication for depression and for the past three-four days, he felt increasingly depressed. He had discussed his concerns about his low marks with his family. He has a younger brother studying in Jaipur. An accidental death report has been filed under the relevant sections of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
