Nagpur: An official said that a 24-year-old woman was arrested along with two of her friends for allegedly stabbing a man to death for allegedly teasing and passing lewd remarks against her while she was smoking a cigarette at a pan shop on Manewada Cement Road in Nagpur on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as 28-year-old Ranjit Rathod. the main accused was identified as Jayashree Pandhare. She was arrested along with two of her friends – Savita Sayre an Akash Dinesh Raut on the charge of murdering the man.
The police said that 28-year-old deceased was allegedly staring at the accused, Jayashree, in the Mahalaxmi Nagar area under the jurisdiction of Hudkeshwar police station while she was smoking a cigarette at a pan shop . The incident was caught on CCTV camera.
According to the police report, a heated argument broke out when Panjhade felt offended by Rathore’s staring. Rathore had gone to the shop to buy cigarettes. Panjhade later called his friend Akash Dinesh Raut, who arrived at the scene and confronted the victim. The police said that he later stabbed her multiple times with a knife before fleeing the scene.
Police arrived at the scene after receiving information and Rathore was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead. A video clip was also found on Rathore’s cellphone in which Jayshree is seen blowing smoke balls towards him and abusing him. Rathore is also seen abusing her.
After the incident, a senior official said that based on the CCTV footage from the area and the clip from Rathod’s phone, the police arrested the trio under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigation in underway.
