Noida Expressway Speed Limits Reduced to Mitigate Fog-Related Accidents

Noida: In a proactive move to enhance road safety during the winter season, Noida Police has implemented new speed limits on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. Effective for two months starting December 15, as announced by the Gautam Budh Nagar police commissionerate, these measures aim to mitigate the risk of road accidents caused by poor visibility during winter. The Noida-Greater Noida expressway, a vital high-speed corridor spanning nearly 25 km with six lanes, connects Noida and Greater Noida in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district near Delhi.

Noida Police Introduces New Speed Limits on Expressway

The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police has introduced new speed limits on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, effective from December 15, 2023, to February 15, 2024, aimed at enhancing road safety during the winter season. According to the police, heavy vehicles are now restricted to a speed limit of 50 kmph, while lighter vehicles, such as cars, have a revised speed limit of 75 kmph.

This decision is part of an effort to prevent and reduce road accidents attributed to decreased visibility caused by winter fog. The usual speed limits on the expressway are 100 km per hour for light vehicles and 80 km per hour for heavy vehicles.

“In order to prevent and reduce road accidents due to reduced visibility on the roads during the winter season, the speed limit of vehicles plying on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway has been decreased from December 15, 2023, to February 15, 2024. The upper speed limit will be 50 kmph for heavy vehicles and 75 km per hour for light vehicles,” stated the police.

Traffic helpline number

The Gautam Buddh Nagar police stressed the significance of complying with the revised speed limits, encouraging commuters to reach out to the traffic helpline at 9971009001 for any issues. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumar Yadav cautioned that violating road safety rules would result in a Rs 2,000 fine for exceeding speed limits. Repeat offenders, accumulating more than three challans, face potential driving license suspension and, in severe cases, vehicle registration cancellation.

This initiative addresses the rising number of road accidents in Noida and Greater Noida, with nearly 400 fatalities and around a thousand reported accidents this year alone. The robust enforcement is reflected in the issuance of over 14 lakh challans, more than double the figure from 2022.
