Rajasthan: Case against magistrate for misconduct to Dalit gang rape survivor

Deputy SP (ST-SC) cell Mina Meena said that the survivor had filed a complaint on March 30 alleging that the Hindaun court magistrate under the guise asked her to strip in order to see her injuries.

Jaipur: On the day when the state of Rajasthan was celebrating its establishment, an incident that embarrassed the judiciary took place in the state. A magistrate in Hindaun city of Rajasthan’s Karauli district for booked for allegedly asking a Dalit gang rape survivor to take-off her clothes under the guise of examining her injuries. The case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The accused, who has not been named in the FIR, is facing serious allegations.

According to the police, the 18-year-old victim was gang-raped by some youth on March 19. She took refuge in the court to seek justice in this matter. On the orders of the court, the police registered a case at Hindaun City Sadar police station on March 27 and got the victim’s medical done. It is alleged that the magistrate asked the survivor to undress even after she had undergone a medical examination by the police. The survivor had appeared in the magistrate’s court to record her statement on March 30.

The victim alleged in the complaint given to the police that after recording her statement in the court, the magistrate stopped her and asked her to take off her clothes. The magistrate said, “Take off your clothes, I want to see the wounds on your body.” The victim refused to do so and filed a complaint with the police to teach the magistrate a lesson and sought justice. She says that whatever the magistrate said to me, I do not want any other victim to say the same. The magistrate should be punished so that no one even dares to think like this.

The case has sparked outrage and calls for strict action against the accused magistrate.
