Trinamool Unveils Manifesto : Promises 10 Free LPG Cylinders, 5 kg Ration, and More

Trinamool Unveils Manifesto : Amidst the election fervor, the Trinamool Congress has revealed its manifesto for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, outlining significant promises for the welfare of the people. The manifesto, released in Kolkata, includes key pledges such as repealing changes to the citizenship law, providing 10 free LPG cylinders annually to below-poverty-line families, and distributing five kg of free rations monthly.

Key Highlights of Trinamool’s Manifesto

Repealing Changes to Citizenship Law: The Trinamool, aligning with other opposition parties, has vowed to roll back changes to the citizenship law if it secures victory over the ruling BJP.

Welfare Measures for Farmers: The party has pledged support to farmers by ensuring the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for agricultural produce is set at least 50 per cent higher than the average cost of production. Additionally, a price stabilisation fund will be established to manage market fluctuations.

Guaranteed Employment: Trinamool promises 100 days of guaranteed work to all job card holders, with a daily wage of ₹400 for registered workers across the nation.

Education and Scholarships: The manifesto includes plans to triple the number of higher education scholarships for marginalized communities, specifically for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Scheduled Tribes (STs).

Enhanced Pension for Senior Citizens: Senior citizens above 60 years of age will see an increase in the existing pension scheme to ₹1,000 per month.

Housing for All: A promise of “dignified housing” for all poor families in the country, ensuring safe and secure homes.

Manifesto Launch and Campaigning

The manifesto launch was accompanied by sharp criticisms of the BJP by Trinamool Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who warned voters of the upcoming election’s intensity. The Trinamool’s promises are in alignment with its alliance partners, including Tamil Nadu’s ruling DMK and the Congress.

Response from BJP and Other Parties

The CPI(M)’s manifesto, particularly its vow to dismantle India’s nuclear weapons, faced criticism from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who accused the Left party of jeopardizing national security. Meanwhile, the BJP’s manifesto, released earlier, focused on dignity, quality of life, and opportunities for various sections of society.

Countdown to Elections

As the nation gears up for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to commence on Friday and spanning seven phases until June 1, political parties are making bold promises and engaging in spirited campaigning. The final election results are slated to be announced on June 4. In the previous 2019 election, the Trinamool Congress secured 22 seats out of West Bengal’s 42, with the BJP winning 18 and the Congress two.
