West Bengal: Paramilitary jawan found dead with head injuries in polling station washroom

West Bengal: On Friday morning, sources said that a paramilitary jawan died after he slipped in a toilet at a polling booth in West Bengal. The incident happened at a polling booth in Mathabhanga in CoochBehar, one of the seats going to polls today.

West Bengal: On Friday morning, sources said that a paramilitary jawan died after he slipped in a toilet at a polling booth in West Bengal. The incident happened at a polling booth in Mathabhanga in CoochBehar, one of the seats going to polls today.

Official said that the body of the CRPF jawan was found just before polling began. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead. After the incident, Hospital sources, citing preliminary information, said he slipped in the toilet and suffered head injuries.

The real reason behind his death will be known only after the post-mortem today and No criminal angle is suspected. Today morning, Voting began in CoochBehar amid tight security. The BJP has re-nominated sitting MP Nisith Pramanik from here, while the Trinamool has fielded Jagdish Basunia against the Union minister.

Cooch Behar, a high-profile seat in North Bengal, witnessed clashes during the state elections in 2021. Four people were shot dead in clashes with security forces outside a polling station in Sitalkuchi, after which the Election Commission suspended polling.

Today, Polling are also being held for Alipurduars and Jalpaiguri seats in Bengal today, both won by the BJP in 2019. The ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal had then won a total of 22 seats, while the BJP got 18 seats.
