Rajasthan: 8 students injured after a massive fire breaks out in hostel building in Kota

Rajasthan: On Sunday, Eight students injured after a massive fire breaks out in a boys’ hostel building. After receiving information about this incident, fire tenders and local police reached on the spot.

Official said that preliminary reports suggesting that the short circuit led to the blaze. Superintendent of Police (SP) Kota city Amrita Duhan said that the incident happened at around 6.15 am in Landmark City under Kunhari police station.

According to initial investigation, a short circuit in an electric transformer installed on the ground floor of the five-storey hostel building led to the fire, the police said. The forensic team, however, is trying to ascertain the exact reason for the incident.

About this incident, a fire officer at Kota Municipal Corporation Rakesh Vyas said that hostel building was not equipped with fire safety measures and did not have fire NOC. He added that it’s alarming that the transformer was installed inside the hostel building.

Police said that first aid for six injured students, including one who suffered severe burn injuries, is underway at Maharao Bhim Singh (MBS) Hospital here. He said that one student has suffered a fracture in his leg as he jumped from the first floor of the building along with 14 other students to escape the fire. He is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

A NEET student from Chhindwara in Bihar, Bhavishya was also injured in the incident. He said that he woke up around 6.15 am after hearing a loud sound and when he came out of his room, he saw thick smoke all around. He said that the students decided to jump from the first floor as the stairs were filled with smoke and there was no other way to exit the building.

SP Duhan said that the building had 75 rooms, of which 61 were occupied. He said that fire tenders reached the spot in time and doused the fire before it spread to the upper floors. Circle Inspector of Kunhadi Police Station Arvind Bhardwaj said that all the students have been rescued from the building.

He said that the parents of the students are being contacted and assured that their children are safe. Bhardwaj added that since most of the students could not take their mobile phones with them during the rescue, a helpdesk is also being set up for the students and their parents. The CI said that the matter is being investigated.
